Could you be our new Treasurer?

We are looking for a new Treasurer to join our Management Committee at St George Community Association. We're the team of volunteers who run St George Community Centre as an affordable community venue for the benefit of local residents.

We're looking for someone with great organisational skills, preferably with book-keeping experience. We can offer you plenty of support from the rest of the committee, transferable skills to add to your CV, and the chance to be a key part of an established community organisation. A full role volunteer role description is available.

If you're interested in joining us please email us at . If you'd like an informal chat about the role please call our Chair, Tamsin Harcourt, on 07531 751 997.

New Committee

We held our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 25 March, and we are delighted to say that we now have three brand new members on our Management Committee. It's great to have some enthusiastic new faces, and we have plenty of ideas and plans for the year ahead.

Very sadly, we will be saying goodbye to our Treasurer Rhiannon Reid, who announced that she would like to step down from the role after over 13 years of service. We will be advertising for a new Treasurer shortly, but would like to say a huge thank you to Rhiannon who has managed the centre's finances so effectively. A hard act to follow!

We were also really pleased that some of our hirers came to show their support at the AGM. Without the groups that use us, there simply wouldn't be a Community Centre, so thank you!

Our current Management Committee:

Tamsin Harcourt (Chair)
Jo Chesterman (Secretary)
Haylee Cowley
Nic Hope
Sally King
Heather Knipprath-Potts

Volunteering Opportunity

Could you help run St George Community Centre?
We're looking for new people to join our management committee

About us
St George Community Centre is an affordable venue for a diverse range of groups and activities. From Tai Chi to Toddler Groups, there's always plenty going on. We have a Community Asset Transfer from Bristol City Council (who own the building) and all the income we generate is used to maintain this vital community resource.

About you
  • You live or work in St George and want to make a difference to your community.
  • You can commit to a 2 hour meeting every 6 weeks.
  • You are able to join our keyholder rota to open/close the centre for occasional parties and events.
  • You have skills that could help run this community building. At the moment we're particularly looking for support with marketing and fundraising.

This is a voluntary position, but we can promise plenty of tea and biscuits at meetings. If you're interested in joining us please email us at explaining how your skills and experience could help St George Community Centre.

Changes at the Centre

Firstly a rather belated Happy New Year to you all. We hope 2015 is going to be a busy year at St George Community Centre.

We are pleased to report that Jo Drummond has now settled in as our part-time Centre Co-ordinator. Jo is the person to talk to about hire enquiries and is available at the centre on Monday mornings, or the usual number and email at other times.

We also have some rather sad news. Kate Gascoyne, our current Chairperson, is standing down after many years serving on the Management Committee. It has been a pleasure to work with Kate, who has a passion for her local community and has helped make the centre what it is today. The rest of us on the committee would like to say an enormous thank you to Kate for her leadership and her sheer hard work. We will miss you and you are a hard act to follow.

Don't miss out!

This lady looks like she just lost out in the jumble sale of life...

Just over a week to go until our very own Table Top Sale on Sunday 16 November. Come along and grab a bargain, lots of pre-loved clothes, books and homeware. Doors open at 2pm, entry free.

Plus pop-up cafe with delicious homemade cakes. All proceeds go towards the running costs of the centre, which is home to so many local groups.

See you there?

Goodbye Angela

Today was our Centre Co-ordinator Angela's last day and we are very sad to see her go, but wish her well in her work with Playing Out. Angela has been a real asset to the Community Centre and the Management Committee would like to thank her for all her hard work in keeping us organised, always working with enthusiasm and good humour.

Jo Drummond, our new Centre Co-ordinator will be starting on 2 November. In the meantime, the management committee will be picking up messages, so it may take a little longer than normal to get a reply so please be patient with us!

For all hire enquiries, please email us and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
